Young children forced into new killing fields in Uganda
The Million people in Northern Uganda have been driven into refugee camps by Africa's forgotten conflict. Oxfam has been working in the country since 1986 - When the war between the state and the LRA started. It brings aid to 230,000. The conflict has lasted 20 years : 500,000 people, many of them children, have been killed in Africa's longest -running war, Almost 2 million people live in cramped, unsanitary camps, 1000 people die every week in the camp, The lord resistance army has kidnapped 27,000 children, An average of 3 children are kidnapped everyday this year, 40,000 kids live rough at night to avoid LRA raids. The UN Security Council has passed more than 1,000 resolution since the war began. Not one has concerned northern uganda.
Children Living With Aids In the World October 27, 2005: Every minute, Aids kills Another child, 500,000 young lives each year(80% in Africa), 1,400 children under 15 die every day. Unite for children, Unite against Aids. 640,000 under 15 are infected with HIV every year. and half of them will die before their 2nd birthday, without treatment. More than 6000 young people between 15 and 24 are newly - infected with HIV everyday - one every 15seconds. 4 million children need access to cotrimoxazole costs just 1.6p a day - yet only one per cent of them actually have access, a drug which combats deadly infections and can almost halve deaths from HIV. 15 million children have been orphaned by AIDS. 510,000 children under 15 died because of AIDS last year. 2.1 children under 15 have AIDS. Bob Geldof organized the same show 25 years ago for people dying in Ethiopia, but this one was for the poorest countries. Cancellation of debts owed by the poorest countries. And increasing aid to poorest countries. Famine in Africa: People of North east part of Uganda, Northern Kenya, Southern Somalia, Ethiopia, Niger are at a risk of facing famine in the near future. 20/03/2007 Niger Famine: The first Flight by British Aid Agency to fly to the famine stricken West African country. British red Cross flying there were more than 3 million people face imminent Starvation. And it is stated that third of those are children. It is Just three weeks ago that Live 8 and Make Poverty History Campaign was staged across. It seems like everyone has forgotten now.
